US Para 57mm Anti Tank Gun Platoon

Hello All

another updated with my latest platoon painted up for my Market Garden US Para Army. The final platoon for the army (for now anyway) an Anti Tank gun platoon.
I made this platoon more as a need than a ant for my list. They are only ranged AT asset in the list which isn't a platoon of British tanks which I didn't have much success with in my practice games. I really didn't want to take the 57mm guns as in Market Garden they have No HE, which massively limits their use.

Milton Keynes Campaign 2013 AAR

Hello All,

Ben here with a Event AAR. Last weekend myself, Winner Dave and honourary Breakthrough Assault member Cid formed the Bournemouth 'A' Team for Milton Keynes Campaign Flames of War League. The event has teams of 3 players each using an army from a different era playing each other in a Round Robin style event. The event has a nice element in that each year teams can be promoted and relegated between the 3 Divisions, as we we're a new team were started in the bottom division. So slightly bleary eyed we turned up on the Saturday morning with the 19 other teams and found are first opponents.

I had chosen to play Late War and decided to give my new Market Garden US Paras a try out. It's a very different list from the Nuts US Paras I had used at Brighton and Corrivaly, the loss of the Tank Destroyers possible did hurt me at times but having 3 big infantry platoons meant the list had an offensive possibility the Nuts list could not match. My list was:-

US Airborne Engineer Platoon

Hello All

another updated with my latest platoon painted up for my Market Garden US Para Army. I have rounded out my infantry with an Airborne Engineer Platoon.

This is one of my favourite units in the US Para army, The combination of 3 Bazookas, LMG's and the Pioneer Supply Cart means you have a real combined armies platoon that can take anything thrown at it.

Tale of Winter Gamers - US Paras - Final Report

Hi  All

So this is my last TOTWG post, I have painted everything I wanted to paint for the challenge and so I'm surprisingly in the position that I have finished something early (very unlike me)! Adam is going to contuine on for another month as he still has a few things he wants to paint. Quite honestly I'm surprised with how well this has gone! Most of you out there have probably taken part in some sort of Tale of X Number of Gamers and I dare say 90%  them never get finished, let alone finished ahead of schedule with painted armies!

Also for myself it is ending now takes a lot of pressure off of me with my other projects. I have 2 armies I'm painting up for tournaments in May and June (my Market Garden Paras and My Mid War Fins), I'm also dabbling in Vietnam and I'm struggling to find enough hours in the day!

US Paratrooper for Market Garden - Mortars

Hello All

Ben here with a painting update, this time for my my for 101st Airborne Market Garden army.

I have added a platoon of Mortars to give my force some artillery and smoke to the army. As all the models were the same I mixed up the 3rd crew man with some spare models from other platoons.

List Discussion - US Paratroopers Nuts!

Hello All,

I have played a load of games with these guys and have remind my list a bit so I thought it would be nice to give a pointers and advice to anyone else looking to play with or against the list. So I'm building to the Late War standard 1750pts with a Parachute Rifle Company from Nuts!.

So the Core:-

HQ: 1iC and Lipton 55pts

Obviously this you have to have a HQ section in the list and normally you don't get many option, but with the Parachute Rifle company you get the Easy Company Heroes who add a fair few more options. For me Lipton is a no Brainer, for 25pts you get a re-roll platoon moral tests is pretty nice, add to that he comes with an SMG which is normally a 15pts upgrade he seems a bit of a bargain.

I did think about adding in Speirs, mainly as for me he is the iconic Band of Brothers character from the series during the Bulge, but I'm don't think he brings enough to the table to be worth the 40pts upgrade.

US Airborne Anti Tank Guns

Hello All,

Ben here with another update for my TOTWG US Paras, this time a 57mm Anti Tank Gun Platoon.

This is one of my favourite platoons in the list, not only do you get the four ROF 3 AT 10 guns for defensive fire or for keeping lightly armoured vehicles away from your battle line, but you also can make a nice little anti tank assault force by sending the for Bazookas and the platoon commander off on an assault.

Corrivaly 2013 AAR - Ben + Photo Dump

Hello All

Ben here with my Corrivaly tournament after action report. Again like when we went to The Brighton Bash, as myself and Adam left in the early hours of the morning the weather was awful. This time instead of Rain we had snow! Still we got there in one piece and took in the venue. I must say the iCon centre was a great venue, very big and had a lovely cafe.

Corrivaly has an interesting tournament format, it was 1750pts LW but you got to take 2 lists, the core had to be the same, but you had a 750pts swap out. The other interesting format was instead of having one mission everyone plays each round, each table has a different mission on it that staying the same for the whole event.

Like Brighton I was using my US Paras out of Nuts! My main list was:-

  • HQ + Spiers and Lipton
  • US Para Platoon + Extra Bazooka, 2 Rifles to Bazookas and Toccoa Sergeants
  • US Para Platoon + Extra Bazooka, 2 Rifles to Bazookas and Toccoa Sergeants
  • 4 LMG's
  • 3 57mm Anti Tank Guns and 3 Bazookas
  • 4 Recon Jeeps
  • 4 M18 Tank Destroyers
  • 6 M3 105mm Light Howitzers
  • AOP

My other list had 4 Trained Shermans and the Artillery split into 2 platoons of 3 for the lose of Spiers, the Anti Tank Guns and the Jeeps. I only used the other list once as I really didn't rate it, but thought the Shermans might be worth in a few situations, really I learnt they need a Jumbo to be worth it if you run them as trained. Anyway the draw went up and went to find my first opponent of my second ever FOW tournament.

US Paratrooper for Market Garden - HQ Section

Hello All

Ben here with a painting update, this time for my 101st Airborne Market Garden army.

For the HQ, I decided to use the Easy Company heroes as the command models for a few reasons. Firstly they are very nice models, secondly it means I can do Easy Company from Normandy to the Bugle and finally there is only 2 US Para command models, the blister adds in quite a few more models to the mix. To make the commands different from my Bulge army and to keep it historicalish everyone got a downgrade. So Winter's has become the Company Commander instead of a Higher Command model, Lipton will be a Platoon Commander, etc.

US Airborne Recon Jeeps + Extras

Hello All

Ben here with a little update for my Winter US Paras and the TOTWG challenge.

I have always loved the idea of Jeeps in a Battle of the Bugle US force since I played Call of Duty on the PC (I think it was the add on to the first game). In it you started off on patrol in your Jeep when you basically run into the German offensive. Anyway it's a cool bit of the game and so I this month I finally got around to painting them.

Tale of Two Winter Gamers - Month Three - 101st Airborne

Hello All,

Ben here with my slightly delayed TOTWG update (sorry for the delay, but I have been quite ill). Anyway this is more of a recap than of the month with a terrain update.

In January I have painted up my second Glider Artillery platoon, an AOP and a LMG Platoon. I also got quite a few games in playing 5 games at the Brighton Bash and one against one of my regular opponents Kevin Perry. I was really happy with the Brighton Bash, finishing 6th in my first FOW tournament was much better than I thought I would do.

US Paratoopers for Market Garden

Hello All, Ben here with another  painting update,

I took the day before the Brighton Bash off work to paint up any models I needed to get done. The problem was I finished my US Paras the day before!

So what to do with my free time? Well instead of getting ready for Corrivaly I decided to paint up some US Paras for the new Market Garden book (not like me to get distracted....). I really enjoyed painting them, in fact I enjoyed them more than my Winter US Paras.

Brighton Bash 2013 - Late War Tournament AAR

Hello All Ben here,

so this weekend I went to the Brighton Bash, me first ever FOW tournament. I took my US Paras that I have been working on for the last 3 months a head of this tournament. The event set up was simple,  Late War 1750pts with no Special Characters and 5 Games over 2 days, also every game was to be Allied vs Axis. I really liked this as I enjoy more traditional games than blue on blue games. This is not to say I'm a historical purest, but I like my games to have that this could have happened element to them.

Being my first tournament I set myself some goals. Firstly I wanted to try and win 3 out of the 5 games, I did think this might be a bit ambitious but thought it was best to aim high. My second goal was to not get 1-6 in any of the games and my third goal was to have fun and have a nice time. My prep for the tournament didn't go as well as I hoped as on the Friday night I got about 3 hours sleep thanks to my 13 month old daughter having a chest infection and waking up every 1 and a half.... I gave up trying to sleep at 3am and played a couple of hours of Halo online and drank a few letres of coffee before Dr Cox picked me up. The journey there was also a nightmare as the rain literally hammered the car and an points we also had thunder and lightning! But we turned up in rain hit Brighton in one piece and found the pub the event was being held in. After a little debrief I found my way to table number 2 and my first opponent.

My list for the event was US Paras from Nuts!:-

  • HQ
  • US Para Platoon + 1 Bazooka and 2 rifle teams turned into Bazookas
  • US Para Platoon + 1 Bazooka and 2 rifle teams turned into Bazookas and rifle "downgrade"
  • Veteran Sherman Platoon with 2 M4A3 Lates and 2 M4A3 76mm
  • Tank Destroyer Platoon with 4 M18's
  • Glider Artillery
  • Glider Artillery + Jeeps
  • AOP

US Para Painting Update, Artillery, AOP, Jeeps and LMGS

Hello All,

Ben here with another US Para update. As you may know I have been on a painting mission of late to get my US Paras ready for the Brighton Bash this weekend. Well mission accomplished!

This week I have finished my second Glider Artillery Platoon giving me 6 guns in total, 3 jeeps for one of the Artillery Platoons, an AOP observer and finally a LMG platoon for my next tournament in February Corrivaly.

The 2nd Glider Artillery was far more enjoyable to paint than the first (I really don't know why!? The only thing I can think of is I'm getting faster at painting Winter US so they were a lot quicker to paint, so more fun?), they also give me a load more gaming options. With the US combined fire rules I can add both batteries together into one big bombardment for either a 12" by 6" template or a 6" by 6" template with re-rolls to hit, I also have the option of doing separate bombardments if needed. I'm hoping to make a lot of use of this option at the weekend in Brighton.

Tale of Two Winter Gamers - Month Two - 101st Airbourne

Hello All

Welcome to my second months post for Tale of Two Winter Gamer. For my first month I just a platoon of Infantry pianted, so for the second month I need to paint up some HQ's for my company as part of my and Adam's targets. For this I picked up the Easy Company Heroes so I added Speirs and Lipton to the list. I love the set, they really got the character of the guys from the TV series down to a tea.

Next up I wanted a little change so next up on my list was so Glider Artillery. I think these are a great little unit, you get a nice points break as the direct fire option isn't great, but I don't think you can complain about 115pts for 3 guns with a good firepower and smoke.

After these two platoons I focused on the 2nd Paratrooper platoons. I decided to use the metal US Paratroopers instead of the plastic models for this platoon and I think it was a better choice. While the metal models are a lot smaller they did suit my painting style a lot better than the plastic ones did, in my option I think the detail of stands out a lot better than it did with the plastic paras.

Overall I'm happy with how they turned out and thankfully they don't looking to out of pace compared to the first platoon I painter.

For the terrain I snowed up some Battlefront rural roads. They still need a second lot of snow flack on them but I ran out of the flock.... I'm burning through the stuff.

Well thats it for month two, my plans for the third month is a LMG platoon, some recon Jeeps and a second Glider Artillery platoon.

So until next time, thanks for reading.

Easy Company Heroes

Hello All

A few weeks ago I picked up a blister of the new Easy Company Heroes to go with my 101st Airborne Company I'm currently collecting. I'd quickly like to say I love the set, they really got the character of the guys from the TV series down to a tea. I have only got the HQ painted up so far but expect to see the rest of the Taccoo Sergeants as more squads get painted up.

Winters and Nixon, love the fact that Nixon is drinking!

Spiers, running of course! I like this model but part of me wishes they had gone for him jumping through an explosion as he does on the way to taking over Easy Company in the Foy episode.

Lipton. Not much to say on this model.

Overall a great set. Even if I wasn't doing Easy Company I would probably pick up the set to add some nice characters and individual models to a company of Paras.

As always thanks for looking and until next time.

US Glider Artillery

Hi All

I have been busy this month getting my army ready for Brighton. This platoon of Glider Artillery makes it 4 out of 6 platoons done and dusted.

I think these are a great little unit, you get a nice points break as the direct fire option isn't great, but I don't think you can complain about 115pts for 3 guns with a good firepower and smoke.

Before I knew Battlefront were releasing the Winter Jeeps I bought a set of the Skorzeny Commando Group, but not wanting to waste anything I decided to use one of the bases as a Staff Team. Although I was slightly annoyed I'm happy with how it turned out.

Not much more to say so I'll let the pictures do the talking.
