Breakthrough Assault Early War One Dayer AAR

Hello all

On the 11th Janurary we held a one day tournament at Entoyment, 16 players come to what was for most of use the first tournament of the year.

The event was 1550pts, open with three games, this was the first time any of us had played a tournament with the new Barbarossa book and we were very interested to see what effect that would have on the "meta".

I was trying out T-34's in Early War for the first time, in fact I didn't get a single practice game in... still something it's best just to get thrown in the deep end.

Late War AAR - Panssari vs US 1st Armored - Free For All

Hi All

Another AAR and an odd one for you, I decided to risk unleashing the mighty Panssari  company - I almost felt the ground tremble.  Paul opted for US 1st Armoured from the Italy compilation - really wanting to field his 76mm! We rolled up Free for All

The lists

Starting with Paul, he'd gone for an Italian US list - he realised after he's made a small mistake as the 57mm guns were not an option in the list but not a huge problem in hind site he had

Project Finland Epilogue - Panssari Kompanie

Hi all, 

One of the common questions which I got asked whilst painting my Finns was 'what do you think of the Panssari'. Honestly never thought about it, but then there was the EW sale, and I needed 2 blisters, so I ended up getting some T-28's...

So what is it about the Finnish panassari that is so appealing - obsolete fearless veteran tanks. I'll be honest I'm normally against fearless tanks on principle, and I prefer a few quality tanks over lots of chaff - but somehow with the Finns it works... Ok it kinda works in LW, but in MW...

So let's look at the two versions quickly

Project Finland – Mission Complete

Hi all Coxer here,

Wow, that’s another huge project completed. It’s been 6 months since my first post for this project went live, though with the planning which goes into it, the painting which normally starts before posts go live etc – I’ve been working on the army since January of this year

The aim was always to get an army which could be played in multiple time periods(EW/MW/LW) – and not only have I done that but I’ve also taken them to tournaments in three different time periods too, EW – Welsh open, MW – Breakthrough Assault MW one Day, and LW – Breakthrough Assault LW one day. Not too bad I think. I will admit though due to having lots of other lists and armies I’ve not played them in as many normal games as I’d have liked – in fact I’m going to take a little FoW painting break so I can catch up with playing these guys and also some of the other lists I have yet to play.

Project FInland : Finnish Sissi

Hello all Coxer here,

So here is it the final platoon! It’s a lovely sculpt, and very interesting too. It comes in 2 pieces, the main body and a separate set of skis, which fit into the new style bases pre drilled holes, though I do wonder why these guys come in little packs of 5 and not in one big blister… They fit in relatively cleanly, a little fiddling with the poles is needed at time.

I painted them as I have done the rest of my infantry – I’ll be honest these are not my best work – it was a real slog trying to motivate myself to paint these guys, and I have never been so happy to finish a platoon! It’s been a tough project, and finishing on a big old infantry platoon is just what you don’t want at the end! The main change was using the black-brown for the ski’s – this I think looks really nice contrasted to the white of the snow.

Project Finland: Finnish Tank Hunter Platoon (Late War)

Hi all the penultimate unit for my Finns. I thought they deserved their own little article, as despite being 7 stands strong (apologies for only showing 6 stands forgot one in my box!) they have a real tactical use which I think deserves a highlight.

Project Finland - Finnish T-34

Hi all

Coxer here with some T-34's for my Finn's. Firstly These are the new Battlefront T-34's and just WOW!!! These models were a real pleasure to put together, I was properly impressed by the quality of the kit, and the details on it. The options for both the 76 and 85 were really appreciated too. But enough of the build quality, lets look at the painting of these - as I've refined this since I started way back with the T-26.

I started by basing the model black, I'm a big fan of this as opposed to grey for tanks, as it gives it depth I think.

Project Finland : Mid War Fun & Madness

Hi all welcome to the third part of my Finnish list discussions - this time Midwar! (Early and Late war are here.)

I'm going to be honest this post has been rewritten perhaps three times - because trying to come up with a Finnish list for Mid War is tough! I'm once again sticking with Jääkärikomppania, and once again I'm FV. I'm planning this list for the next BA one day event, and Reading Warfare!

So where am I going to start, well once again lets go with the compulsory choices Jääkäri platoons, unlike late war I don't think I have the points for lots of upgrades, except of course Torni for one platoon and a close defense team for the other.

I'm thinking that I'm going to be defensive quite a lot due to the overwhelming number of tankovy lists I've previously played in MW, as such I'm going a little different, I want big platoons on the board with everything. As such I'm going to next go for the Anti Tank Rifle Platoon, but going to make them all Close defense teams and I can combat attach them out.

Project Finland: Looted Reinforcements

Coxer here with a paining update for my Finnish army. I've been trying to come up with some way to link all of these looted units was about the only option.

Lets start with the tanks - The ISU-152. This was a present from Ben, and realistically there is nothing wrong with having such a ridiculous vehicle in this army - except I like vet intantry, a trained tank is very out of keeping. Historically the Finn's captured two of these, one became a recovery vehicle, the other back in working order. I painted this one in keeping with the other vehicles, tri colour camo, a white wash and then some details, nothing too swish - oh and some weathering. I'm not sure how useful it will be in game, but I'll try it out no doubt.

Finnish BA-10 Armoured Cars

Hi all

just another little update for my Finn’s.

These little beauties are some Zvezda BA-10 armoured cars, they’re the only wheeled reconnaissance option available to the Finn’s and are useable in Mid and Late war.

Finnish - Landsverk Anti II AA-tank and Lorries

This time it's a bit odd as only some of the units are combat units, and some are transports...

But lets start with the fun stuff the Landsverk Anti II AA-tank, it's one of the coolest little units in the game IMHO (though I am a sucker for SP AA)

Finnish Panzer IV's

Hi all,

after a lot of Early War love it's time to go to Late War! And not just late war - it's 1945 and the Finn's are in the Lapin Sota!

Yes this is the only Finnish list giving you access to the panzer IV - and I love that tank. I had a box sitting around since I did my ten for my German force, but having long ago discarded my plan for a Peiper list the box has found it's use with my Finn's

Project Finland - Late War Finnish List For BA One Dayer

Hi all,

Ok so I'm slightly nervous here as a nail my colours to the mast, it's our local 1 day event and I think I'm going to take the Finns!

Now why the Finns? Well good question - my initial thoughts had been Brit Airlanding or possibly German Panzers from DM, FI or PTTM, or even as an off chance my Italy Brits! But 2 things have swayed me, firstly - I like playing aggressive infantry! There is something nice about your stands of men getting ready to teach the opposition a lesson. Secondly the Finns did me proud at the Welsh Open - I think for that they get a second outing!

Finnish AT and AA guns

Hi all another Finnish update this time it's guns! 

Finn's have vast numbers if different options throughout the war, so I've again magnetized the bases (not the AA as of two options the bases were too different). The nice part is that the guns are able to look battle worn too - and I've tried to again go for that look with lots of tri colour camo peeking through.

EW AAR - Finnish Jääkärikomppania v Japanese Hohei Chutai - Breakthrough

So myself and Winner decided we'd have a small early war game, he was using his Japs, I was using my Finns - this is a highly non historical match up!

We rolled up breakthrough and Dave elected to night attack. Our lists were.

Finnish Artillery Group (Winter)

Hi all and here’s another update for my fighting Finn’s

This time it’s the artillery (if you hadn’t guessed from the title). This is the first platoon (or platoons as I did both together) from the Finnish winter special range that was delayed – I’ll admit I’ve been frustrated waiting for these guys (as I’ve mentioned all over the internet numerous times) but they are worth the wait.

Zvezda T-26 Review and Painting

Hello All

Ok this is possibly a big post covering two areas I tend to avoid, product reviews and painting.

So why am I doing this? Frankly I was being camera happy! So the t-26's are for my winter Finns, they seem a glass cannon with a FA of 1 - but that works in EW! The gun is decent though, just the unreliable and limited vision.

Finnish Tank Hunters (Winter)

Hello all, another update for my winter Finns - the tank hunters. 

Though I'm planning to double them up as pioneers. I'm able to do this I feel as the models just lend themselves to it, all sculpted with strange bits and pieces of equipment - really if there was a flamethrower model they'd be perfect.

To make sure they can run as EW pioneers I needed an extra 4 man base than what comes in the two blisters, thankfully with a few spare from the Jääkäri platoon blisters I can mix them in easily.
