AAR Tankovy vs Panzer Lehr - Free For All

Hello All,  It's been too long since I have done an AAR so with the new Reb Bear book out and a newly painted Soviet Army I figured it was about time I did one!   My Opponent was Paul (of Adam beating fame) who was running his Panzer's on the Meuse list. We rolled up Free For All which surprisingly it turns out Paul had never played. So with that we got cracking.

DEPLOYMENT SUMMARY

Ben's Tankovy (CT): The T-34s spread out to attack the two objectives with the T-70s on the far right flank. The SU100's paired up with the T-34s to give them support. Paul's Panzer Lehr (CV): Paul covered both objectives with a Panzer IV platoon on each. The Panthers went on the right flank with the infantry covering the left flank.

TURN 1 SUMMARY

Ben's Tankovy (CT): The Tanks move out! Paul's Panzer Lehr (CV): Paul sees an opening out takes out the BA-64s, the Nebs range in on the Su100s but failed to do any damage. The rest of the army stays Gone To Ground.

TURN 2

They keep coming

The T-70's see their objective!

The "Sturmovik"  arrives and kills 3 tank and forces the 4th to run off!

The Nebs again shot at the SU100's and this time bail two!

The Panzers roll out.

TURN 2 SUMMARY

Ben's Tankovy (CT): The Soviet Air Force comes to the rescue! The tanks keep coming. Paul's Panzer Lehr (CV): Paul gets aggressive on the right flank.

TURN 3

The left flank falls back so the Soviet Air Force can do the dirty work

The Su100 redeploys to cover the objective and the T-34's.

The Sturmovik kills two Panthers and again routs the final one!

The Panzer IV's look for some revenge!

Taking out one T-34 and bailing three!

The "Pumas" take a few pot shots at the T-34's

The Nebs again shot the Su100's and thanks to some "great" saves all are now bailed!

TURN 3 SUMMARY

Ben's Tankovy (CT): The Left flank pulls back to let the Air Force do the damage. The Right flank takes a lot of shots at the Infantry but causes no damage. Paul's Panzer Lehr (CV): The remainlng German Tanks get suck in and kill a T-34, the Nebs again range in on the SU-100's bailing the whole platoon!

TURN 4

The T-34's return fire killing one

The T-70's get aggressive

The T-34's remain stationary to maximise the number of shots at the infantry but fail to do any damage! 

The Sturmovik is back to buzz the Observer but fails his firepower to kill him.

The Pumas take out a T-34.

The Nebs switch targets and destroy a T-70.

TURN 4 SUMMARY

Ben's Tankovy (CT): The T-34's and T-70's fail to cause any damage on the German Infantry so the T-70's can't assault. The left flank T-34 shot at the remaining Panzer IVs. Paul's Panzer Lehr (CV): The Panzer IV's continue the gun fight with the T-34's on the left flank but can only bail one. The Nebs open up on the T-70's killing one and bailing one. The Pumas pop out and kill a T-34.

TURN 5

The T-34's give another volley to the Panzer IV's...

Killing another one and bailing one and even with the help of the company commander they run off! Four Moral tests for Paul, four failed tests!

The T-70's go in for the assault after another bad shooting phase...

...but our bounced by the defensive fire.

The Pumas fail to hurt the T-34's this turn and fail their Storm Troop roll this would come back to hurt them.

The Nebs smoke the T-70's and in a F' it move the Grenadiers charge the T-70s

After Six rounds of combat the T-70's win with one tank not died or bailed! And then they pass their moral test to stay in the fight!

TURN 5 SUMMARY

Ben's Tankovy (CT): The T-34's kill two more Panzer IV's routing the platoon. The Right flank again fail to kill any infantry, I risk a charge with the T-70's but get bounced by the defensive fire. Paul's Panzer Lehr (CV): The Pumas again try to shot at the T-34's but fail to do any damage. The Nebs Smoke the T-70's and get in, after a long assault (and a lot of luck dice rolls for the Soviets) the last T-70 pushes the infantry back.

TURN 6 AND 7

The SU-100's finally have a target! 

Taking out one of the Pumas! Well worth the points!

The Left flank moves out to take the far (and undefended) objective.

The Su-100's also move out

The T-70's use the Germans own smoke to charge the infantry. One is bailed on the way in.

The T-70's push the infantry back reducing them to one base, but....

...failing their test for the bailed tank they rout!

The Nebs open up on the T-34's but don't do anything and Paul concedes defeat. 4-3 to the Soviets.

TURN 6 AND 7 SUMMARY

Ben's Tankovy (CT): The T-34's on both flansk advance. The Su-100's finally get into the game killing a Puma. The T-70's assault back into the Infantry using the Germans own smoke as cover, they get in but lose one tank in the assault and then rout! Paul's Panzer Lehr (CV): With only one armoured car and one infantry stand left Paul calls the game.

The Hero of the Game. 5 Burning wrecks and 2 routed tanks!  An odd but fun game. The dice really swung one way then the other.  The Sturmovik gets the Hero of the Soviet Union Award for routing two platoons! Because of them the Su-100 where a bit of a waste and I really didn't see what they can do. Also Paul said after the game he'd never seen airpower do anything so wasn't worried about them, he will be from now on!  Paul did surprise me with how aggressive he was at times and I think if the plane hadn't have do the damage it would have caused me a few headaches.  Overall a good game and a 4-3 to me.
