It's Dr Alex here,
I'm going to give a very brief run through of my plans for Just Deserts, our early war desert army-athon
which only Ben and I were cool enough to be selected for. The plan is to do 500 points a month for 3 months and then play at Colours 2013. I have gone with the allies, in particular I'm putting together a British Crusader list. Now I have never played early war, and have only limited flames of war experience (of late war Soviets) so I've gone for what I hope will be the polar opposite of my existing army. As such I've gone for a tank list (also because it's North Africa it would be rude not to) and something that will let me use all the cool British rules like Tally Ho.
Here's what I've come up with (courtesy of easyarmy.com)
Platoon | Qty | Unit | Points | ||
Headquarters | |||||
| 2 2 | Cruiser Mk VI Crusader (with Deck-turret MG) Cruiser Mk VI Crusader CS | 465 | ||
Combat Platoons | |||||
| 2 1 | Cruiser Mk VI Crusader Cruiser Mk VI Crusader (with Deck-turret MG) | 365 | ||
| 2 1 | Cruiser Mk VI Crusader Cruiser Mk VI Crusader (with Deck-turret MG) | 365 | ||
Brigade Support | |||||
| 1 1 4 | Cmd Rifle team 15 cwt truck 47/32 Portee | 175 | ||
| 1 1 3 4 | Cmd MG team Light Mortar team MG team 15 cwt truck | 130 | ||
Company Points: | 1500 |
It also breaks down relatively easy for me to do in 500pt blocks, 5 crusaders is basically 500 points, I do two lots of that and then the infantry and portees at the end.
Hopefully it will play well, I can see digging infantry out of cover being a bit difficult which is why I went with the 47/32's rather than the 2pdr's which would mean even less HE.
We'll see how it goes, after all no plan survives contact with the enemy and no painting plan survives getting the models in a specific time frame.
Wish me luck (and Ben bad luck)
Cool. Pretty much the same list I'm working on. I'm currently finishing up a Motor Platoon. Did you consider dropping one of the tanks in the HQ and running with a full Motor Platoon? Not sure what you would do with the points left over, though, at 1500 pts.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I considered pretty much everything I could think of, mainly plumping for something which is 1500 on the button as I don't like waste. I ended up going against the full motor platoon as I really want them to dig in and counter infantry and spending points to get anti tank rifles didn't seem to mesh with that, particularly as I have the crusaders and portees as anti tank.
ReplyDeletePart of this is probably my late war induced scepticism about anti tank rifles and I can see myself learning that actually they are both good and necessry in early war, but I'll pick that up as I go (I'd probably get rid of the portees to introduce them)
