Colours 2013 - A Change of Plans!

Hello All,

As you may have read myself and Alex were aiming to get our EW desert armies done by for Colours 2013 (see Just Deserts). Well it seems there was a little mix up in the UK tournament scene (which I'm not going to go into here) and the event is now LW. So as I was already up for the challenge of getting an army painted for the event I thought sod it and I'm now planning on getting my new 2nd ID list done for Colours 2013.

Now before everyone rolls their eyes at playing 2nd ID there are a few good reason for me collecting them. Firstly I had a lot US Winter Infantry left over from my Winter US Para army (which funnily enough was the same reason I did the Market Garden Paras!). Secondly the list really fits my style of play, I think despite loving tanks I'm an infantry player at heart and to that end a Veteran infantry player, but I like Infantry that can attack and with the Winter Training rule the 2nd ID should have no problems attacking. Finally the most important reason, I love the Winter US infantry models, sure one or two look a little odd but they are some of my favorite Battlefront models.

The army as it stands, it's all now built, I just need to do the hard part....

I played around with the list a bit mainly cropping and changing between three infantry platoons (my normal preference) and two infantry platoons. I finally choice two platoons as a few top tournament players said it was the better choice and although I'm not sure about it I thought I'd give it a go and see if playing with two platoons changed my mind on the option.

The list covers all my normal checklists of smoke, recon, good anti tank and good anti infantry. The four HMG's and two Bazookas from the Heavy Weapons platoon will mostly be attached out to the two infantry platoons giving me two fourteen man platoons.

I'm looking forward to trying out the mix bombardment rules with the 155mm's and the 105mm's. Combined they make for a nice 6 gun, Anti Tank 5, Firepower 3+ bombardment, add in the AOP and thats a decent bombardment even if it's trained.

I have built the game and have as I type 9 weeks to paint it... glad I have a fair bit of time off work between now and then!

Well wish me luck and as always thanks for reading

Ben

  1. You've got a bit of work ahead of you. As a newly to FOW, I am enjoying watching different lists be developed for tournaments and will see how each go. Best of luck.

  2. How can you paint the infantry on the bases? I just can't imagine doing it that way, but its not like I have ever tried either. Enjoy your Army! :)

    1. I paint all my infantry on the bases. With the great coats I will paint all the model and the base the same colour for the base coat. It's a lot quicker and hell my personal taste I guess.

  3. That seems like a darn nasty list. Looking forward to seeing it at Colours ... hopefully from afar and not actually facing it
