Well this is the first post proper for my new project, and I've started
by focusing on the stars of the show the Cromwells and Challengers.
These
tanks do look very cool IMHO. There is something about their silhouette
and speed which just wins out to me over the Sherman (even with jumbos
etc available). On the other hand the Cromwell just seems strange with
it's giant boxy turret.

US Towed Tank Destroyers
Hello All
Today I bring you the fifth platoon for Colours 2013 painting challenge. I choose to do the Towed Tank Destroyers to get one of the two remaining large platoons out of the way (the other being the second infantry platoon).

The Ar(t)se of Building a Guards Armoured Recce List
Good morning happy blog followers!
So thanks to a few of you I’ve gone guards with my guards armoured recce box – and I’ll be damned if this isn’t the hardest list writing
I’ve ever done!
The list in Market Garden has 2 drawbacks imho, firstly CV is expensive,
secondly AT15 is expensive! So I’m going to try and show why building this list
is just full of frustration.

US 155mm Long Tom Platoon
Hello All
This is my fourth platoon for Colours 2013 painting challenge. This was a very quick platoon to paint and has given me a lot more energy to get onto the remaining units.
One thing I might need to come clean about is I picked up the wrong 155mm artillery... my list has the normal 155mm artillery not the 155mm Long Tom's... hopefully no one will mind?

The Brave & The Bold
Is there a 'best' rating?
One of the bits which I really love about FoW is the mixture of morals and skill ratings. It really encompasses to me how different forces for whatever reason fight slightly differently, and also shows those 'super heroes' who increase stats to a 2+ (are there any who decrease it to a 6+? Shocking leadership or amazing ineptitude? - if Ben was a FoW character maybe...)

Market Garden - Guards Armoured Recce Review
Hi again, I'm here again.
I know this has been out for a while and that Ben also did a review of the US cavalry box, but I still feel it's good to look over these boxes
So what do you get for your money? Well you have enough for the core of any Cromwell force (except rats in Normandy - you're missing a firefly!) You also get some decent support - M10's and Stuart's. Alongside this you get 2 very nice resin objective markers and all the dice, decals and markers for your force.

US Heavy Weapons Platoon
Hello All
So my third platoon for Colours 2013 painting challenge is now behind me, I went for a smaller platoon so I ended up doing a Heavy Weapons Platoon.
I mostly used the same painting style as I used on the infantry, but I did try out a few new things (mainly on the scarfs and gloves). I'm not 100% happy with the results and I won't be doing this on any of the other infantry.

Flakpanzer 38T
Hi again,
my last little painting update for the Lehr...
I really like the background on these guys, Czech tanks, which basically outlived their usefulness and got repurposed for AA, thought I was pleasantly surprised they also ended up serving as the base for the Hetzer too.

Just Deserts - Allies end of July
Dr Alex here with fresh news from the front.
Those of you who are keen will recall that my plan for the 'collect and paint up an EW army in 3 months challenge' was to do a Crusader Squadron.
Those of you who are really keen will recall that I had supply problems and my 1st months' contribution to this army was a Dystopian Wars Chinese fleet, which is of limited use in Flames of War, in a desert.
Fortunately my supply chain problems resolved themselves (I even now have the Panzer II's I had ordered for Ben which was holding everything up, I haven't given them to him yet though, Mwuhahahaha.)

Seek and Destroy - M10 Platoon
Hello All
So my second platoon for Colours 2013 painting challenge is finished. I went for a platoon of M10's to mixed things up a bit after painting the US Infantry Platoon.
I used the painting style I have used on most of my US Tanks so far. Basically I basecoat the whole model Violet Brown and a dry brush the of Green Grey. I then use a pen to black line everything followed by picking out details, decals and finally weathering.

Panzer IV/70's
Hi Everyone
For those of you that don't know Ben is the president of the Panzer IV/70 appreciation society, so it should be no surprise that he gave this platoon to me!
The Panzer IV/70 is actually a pretty useful assault gun in LW I find, It's got a decent AT and is significantly cheaper than the Panther which has the same gun!

How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love Flames of War
Every so often you get bored of fighting the same opponents, Ben has family commitments again, Winner Dave is winning too much and Dr Alex is plotting away so won't surface until he's ready- and so you need a new opponent...
I could go to a local club, or could convert another local to the cause!
